There is something very special about arriving at a Little Muddy Boots session. Little wellies stomp across the path, hands already reaching for sticks, leaves, and puddles. The air smells of earth and trees, and excitement bubbles as children realise the outdoors is their classroom for the next hour.
Our Little Muddy Boots classes are all about learning through play, growing through nature, and giving children the freedom to explore the world around them at their own pace.
One Hour of Outdoor Adventure
Each Little Muddy Boots class runs for one hour and follows a gentle rhythm that feels familiar and comforting to young children. Every week brings a new theme inspired by the seasons and the natural world, carefully planned by a Level 3 Forest School Leader.
Sessions take place outdoors in our 7 different garden and woodland spaces, where muddy hands and happy hearts are always welcome. We embrace all weathers, because every season brings new adventures.
Free Play: Little Hands, Big Discoveries
We begin each session with free play, giving children time to explore, investigate, and follow their curiosity. This is where confidence blossoms and imaginations run wild.
Children might:
🌿 Grow and care for plants as they learn where food comes from.
🦊 Mix mud pies and magic potions using soil, water, and leaves at our mid kitchens.
🌳 Play hide and seek among the trees.
💧 Experiment with the water wall, pouring, splashing, and problem-solving.
🪲 Discover minibeasts hiding under logs or curled inside leaves.
Free play supports independence, creativity, and social skills, while allowing children to move their bodies and connect deeply with nature.
Guided Activities Led by Caring Experts
After free play, the group comes together for guided activities led by our Group Leaders. These activities are designed to gently support the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum while still feeling playful and relaxed.
Through stories, games, and hands-on experiences, children:
🐞 Explore early maths and science through nature.
🌲 Build vocabulary as they learn about plants, animals, and seasonal changes.
Develop fine and gross motor skills through crafting, digging, climbing, and carrying.
🌷 Create arts and crafts inspired by the natural world, often bringing home a special keepsake from their day.
There is no pressure and no rushing. We support the children’s interests, allowing learning to unfold naturally.
Snack Time Around the Campfire
A Little Muddy Boots session would not be complete without snack and drink time. We often gather around the campfire, sharing food, warmth, and conversation. These moments encourage connection, calm, and community, giving children a chance to rest, refuel, and reflect on their discoveries. Many parents and grandparents tell us these quiet moments become some of their favourite memories.
Holiday Sessions and Year-Round Fun
Alongside our regular classes, we also run special longer sessions during school holidays. These sessions allow children to continue exploring, creating, and playing outdoors all year round, with seasonal activities that celebrate nature’s changing rhythms.
